LOS ANGELES, EU.- El género musical ha vuelto a demostrar su poderío, a la vista de las trece candidaturas de "Chicago", que encabeza una lista de aspirantes a los Oscar anunciada ayer y llena de nombres hispanos.
En el cuartel general de la Academia de Artes y Ciencias Cinematográficas frente a 400 miembros de la prensa internacional, su presidente Frank Pierson y la actriz ganadora del Oscar, Marisa Tomei, anunciaron 10 de las 24 categorías con nominación al Oscar, donde la reina de la mañana fue Chicago con 13 nominaciones.
El musical basado en el éxito de Broadway brilla por sus postulaciones a Mejor Película, Mejor Director (Rob Marshall), Mejor Actriz (Renee Zellweger), Mejor Actriz de Reparto (Queen Latifah y Catherine Zeta-Jones) y Mejor Guión Adaptado (Bill Condon).
Chicago compite con Pandillas de Nueva York (10 nominaciones), Las Horas (9 nominaciones), El Pianista (7 nominaciones) y El Señor de los Anillos: Las Dos Torres (6 nominaciones).
El filme basado en la trilogía de libros de J.R.R. Tolkien, logra nominación después que su antecesora El Señor de los Anillos: La Comunidad del Anillo la tuviera hace un año, siendo la segunda secuela en la historia del Oscar que logra esta distinción desde que El Padrino Parte II la tuviera en la década de los 70.
El filme más taquillero del 2002, Spider-Man, tiene nominaciones para Mejor Sonido y Mejor Efectos Especiales.
La nominación de Meryl Streep la coloca con el record de 13 nominaciones, desempatándose con Katharine Hepburn. La actriz de Adaptation tiene dos premios Oscar.
Para Mejor Actor de Reparto compiten Chris Cooper (El Ladrón de Orquídeas), Ed Harris (Las Horas), Paul Newman (Camino a la Perdición), John C. Reilly (Chicago) y Christopher Walken (Atrápame Si Puedes).
El español Pedro Almodóvar obtuvo su primer postulación al premio de Mejor Director gracias a su filme Hable con Ella. Ganó hace años el premio de Película Extranjera por Todo Sobre Mi Madre.
Su competencia está integrada por Rob Marshall (Chicago), Martin Scorsese (Pandillas de Nueva York), Stephen Daldry (Las Horas) y Roman Polanski (The Pianist).
La categoría de Mejor Filme Animado, creada el año pasado, tiene esta vez cinco cintas en competencia: La Era de Hielo, Lilo y Stitch, Spirit: El Corcel Indomable, Spirited Away y El Planeta del Tesoro.
Los cinco guiones que compiten en Mejor Guión Adaptado son Un Gran Chico, El Ladrón de Orquídeas, Chicago, Las Horas y The Pianist. La 75 entrega del Oscar se llevara a cabo el próximo 23 de marzo en el Teatro Kodak de Hollywood Boulevard.
